Every time you have your teeth checked and cleaned, your dentist in 33548 will always squeeze in a brief educational discussion about your oral health. This is necessary because the majority of Americans aren’t brushing and flossing their teeth correctly. As a result, they succumb to oral health problems like tooth decay and gum infection. It’s not enough to know that brushing and flossing are important. What’s more important is if you’re doing these techniques properly.

Brushing and Flossing Basics

Brushing Techniques

Choosing a toothbrush is critical in cleaning your mouth. You should find a soft and round bristled toothbrush. The size should be enough to allow you to brush your back teeth. Your dentist also recommends you buy a new toothbrush every three months or when the bristles look worn.

Brush your teeth at a 45-degree angle. The bristles should be placed where your teeth and gums meet. Brushing should be gentle because if you brush too hard, you will erode your enamel and cause your gums to recede. Also, don’t forget to brush your tongue as it harbors loads of bacteria.

Flossing Techniques

Flossing is also an important step in your oral care routine. If you ask any dentist, they will always tell you that flossing is just as important as brushing and that you shouldn’t skip it. Once a day is ideal. Take a thread of floss and wrap one end on your left middle finger and the other on your right. Leave a two-inch space in between. Slowly guide the floss in between each tooth in a careful sliding motion. Follow a “C” shape starting at the base of your tooth as well as under the gum line.
