How Are CEREC Crowns Made?
CEREC 33548 is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It’s an ultramodern technique that uses CAD/CAM (computer-aided design or computer-aided manufacturing) technology to create customized tooth restorations in just one day. What used to require two trips to the clinic can be made in as little as 2 hours.
Fabricating crowns usually takes weeks to complete, but with CEREC, it only takes a couple of hours, leaving people wondering if these crowns are trustworthy. Learning how these crowns are made will help you understand why they are just as durable as traditional crowns.
How Are CEREC Crowns Manufactured?
Preparation and Scanning
Your cosmetic dentist will obtain images of your affected tooth using an intraoral camera. With the help of CAD/CAM technology, a virtual representation of your soon-to-be crown will be made. The measurements are 100% accurate to ensure that the crown’s size and shape fit your tooth.
The crown will be sculpted from a block of ceramics using a milling machine. The shade must match with your natural teeth. These steps in creating your CEREC 33548 crown take around 15 minutes to complete.
Adjustments and Final Touches
Once the CEREC 33548 crown is made, your cosmetic dentist will fit it over your tooth and make necessary adjustments. The crown will be stained and glazed to achieve the characteristic features of your natural teeth. These steps will take another 25 minutes.
Next, etching will be made on the inside parts of the crown to ensure that it bonds securely to your tooth. It will then be cemented in place. All the steps combined will last for 2 hours.
